Rohr (Thüringen)
Der achteckige Turm mit Zwiebelhaube, hier auf dem Bild, wurde 1629 auf das Torhaus der spätmittelalterlichen Wehrmauer gesetzt.
Die als Klosterkirche (Michaeliskirche) eines Benediktinerklosters zwischen 815 und 824 erbaute Kirche ist von besonderer historischer Bedeutung. So ist sie die älteste Kirche Thüringens und der älteste Monumentalbau im östlichen Deutschland.
So blieben baulich unverändert die karolingische Klosterkirche ist die Hallenkrypta.
In der heutigen Dorfkirche mit Krypta befinden sich bis heute, neben der Krypta, sehenswerte historische Bauteile.
Einst diente sie auch als Pfalzkapelle der deutschen Könige und Kaiser.
